College Love Letter

This is the love letter I wrote to you in college I filled it full of useless nonsense in hopes that you would want it I wrote it on college-bound note paper Thinking you’d toss it out no later Take it. Hold the note, I’ll hold your hand Don’t hold me responsible though, I wrote it fast But whether these sentences transcendent or every jot a sham However honest these thoughts, they came from an honest man I inserted my thin heart between the creases Carefully folded, I didn’t want to leave you speechless But the heart's an essential part like cheese in quiches So now I’m nervous about the neatness I hope I drew the letters legibly Remembered to cross and bend my F’s and G’s I’m stressed to see your reaction I might just make sure you have it clenched and leave But really I won't move an inch as you read it next to me I censored the stupid parts that I would’ve said in person So there’s no way you can get hurt, but there’s no way to tell for certain It’s kinda long, but if you liked my songs This shouldn’t be too much to drive you off I remember you asked me why I loved you as if you wanted a thesis paper And I thought “Can we say I got my sources and just do the research later?” So if you want it to be, you can call this your bibliography Complete with annotations of everything you are to me I wrote a lot about you, and more about your being I tried to stick to what's real and needle out my feelings There’s a couple apologies, a solid recollection of memories And a mostly-comprehensive bullet-point list of reasons you're the best to me I sprinkled in some humor just in case you’re not ready So there’s a few light jokes to make the content less heavy There’s some things that must be said, and others I might just regret But oh well, I’m trusting that I kept it all there for some reason This is your note, I wrote it for you to refer So, by all means, take it and chew on these words But If you take it and don’t like the taste at all I only ask today you take it with a grain of salt Because It would be my greatest pleasure for us to be together But Remember: don’t even begin to illustrate those thoughts until you read this letter Because I could tell you I’m your savior, metaphor myself as your only anchor Say you can trust me, say I’ll save your soul from danger But I, me, personally wouldn’t believe it Until I heard it from the notebook paper
